TTA

TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advancement) is an advanced surgical procedure used in veterinary medicine to treat anterior cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries in dogs. It is a different technique than TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy), but both methods aim to restore stability to the knee joint in a dog with a torn CCL.

As with TPLO, the anterior cruciate ligament is an important ligament in the knee joint that is responsible for stabilizing it. In dogs, especially those that are heavier or more active, the CCL can become damaged, leading to joint instability and causing pain, swelling and loss of limb function.

The TTA procedure involves moving the tibial tuberosity (tuberozitas tibiae) to change the angle of the patellar tendon. This involves changing the forces acting on the knee joint, making the joint more stable without having to depend on the integrity of the damaged anterior cruciate ligament. During surgery, the tibial cusp is repositioned and then secured with special implants such as plates and orthopedic screws to maintain the new position of the cusp.

TTA is one of the advanced surgical techniques used in veterinary medicine to treat CCL injuries in dogs. The procedure requires experience and specialized surgical equipment, so it is performed by veterinarians who specialize in orthopedic surgery.

After surgery, the patient is given painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications, and rehabilitation and physiotherapy are important in the recovery process to help the animal return to full function. The choice of the appropriate surgical procedure depends on a number of factors, such as the patient's age, weight, activity and health, so a specialist veterinarian must decide which method is best for the individual dog.
