Dental examination

A pet dentalexamination, also known as a dental checkup, is the process of assessing the health of an animal's mouth, including teeth, gums, tongue and other oral structures. 1. Assesses general condition: The veterinarian begins the examination with an assessment of the pet's overall health, including an evaluation of general condition, appetite and behavior.
2. Medical history: The vet obtains information about the pet's medical history, including past dental problems, medications taken, diet and other relevant information.
3. Visual examination: The veterinarian carefully views the animal's mouth, including teeth, gums, tongue and mucosa. He assesses the presence of tartar, discoloration, cavities, the condition of the gums (whether they are red, swollen, bleeding) and any other visible problems.
4. Palpation examination: The veterinarian may gently touch the area around the mouth to assess any swelling, soreness or irregularities.
5. Dental evaluation: Each tooth is carefully evaluated for cavities, damage, looseness or calcification. The veterinarian assesses whether the teeth are properly aligned.
6. Periodontalevaluation: The veterinarian assesses the condition of the periodontium, which is the tissue surrounding the teeth, such as bone and gums. The periodontium is important for maintaining dental health.
7. Bite evaluation: If necessary, the veterinarian can evaluate the condition of the bite, which is the way the upper and lower teeth overlap.
8. Additional diagnostics: If the veterinarian notices any abnormalities, he or she may order additional tests, such as X-rays, to further assess the condition of the teeth and tissues.
9. Recommendations: Based on the results of the examination, the veterinarian makes recommendations to the pet owner for further dental care, including possible treatment procedures, prophylaxis or treatments.
