Bactericidal lamps

Germicidallamps, also known as ultraviolet-C (UV-C) lamps, are devices used in veterinary medicine to disinfect surfaces, instruments, medical equipment and air. They emit ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 253.7 nm, which is capable of destroying the DNA and RNA of bacteria, viruses and fungi, effectively eliminating microorganisms and preventing the spread of infection.

Use of germicidal lamps in veterinary medicine:

1. Disinfection of surfaces and equipment: Bactericidal lamps are used to disinfect various surfaces, such as countertops, treatment tables, diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments, etc. Disinfecting these surfaces after each patient or procedure helps prevent the transmission of microorganisms between animals and minimizes the risk of cross-infection.
2. Air disinfection: germicidal lamps can be used to disinfect the air in veterinary rooms, such as treatment rooms, recovery rooms and waiting areas. The UV-C action on the air helps destroy airborne viruses and bacteria, reducing the risk of droplet transmission of infections.
3. Disinfection of water containers for animals: Germicidal lamps can be used to disinfect aquatic animal containers such as bowls, fountains or tanks to provide clean and safe water for patients.

It is important that germicidal lamps are used according to the manufacturer's recommendations and proper precautions are followed. UV-C radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin, so veterinary staff and animal patients should be properly protected from exposure. Germicidal lamps should be used only when there are no people or animals in the room, and the room should be properly ventilated after disinfection.
